Our primary school teachers work with children from Year 1 to Year 6.  We support children from the early stages of reading, writing and maths, right through to the increasingly demanding SATs tests in the summer of Year 6.

We will take time to understand your child’s individual style of learning, and select the most suitable materials and programmes of study to help them progress. Our sessions typically include time working individually with the teacher, time using interactive computer programmes, and time completing written work in both English and maths. We use real objects; blocks, bricks, measuring materials etc., to develop and deepen children’s understanding whenever needed.

We are often asked by parents whether our tutoring sessions will support the work their children are doing in school, or whether it will be in some way different, or separate. Most of our primary school tutors are also currently working in mainstream primary schools, so we are very aware of the expectations for each Year group. However, our aim is to support the individual in their own learning journey, so if we need to go back over earlier ground to consolidate, or go forward into the ‘greater depth’, areas of the National Curriculum then we will talk to you and work out the pace and methods that are best suited to your child.

Homework

We provide homework to be completed after each session. This is to help your child to retain what they have learnt over the intervening week so that we can move on smoothly at the next session. For that reason, five or ten minutes a day is better than half an hour as soon as they get home from tutoring!
